Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference,
not by safety. It is easy to clamor for government security when terrible things happen; but liberty is given true meaning when we support it without exception, and we will be safer for it ~ Dr. Ron Paul

Presidential hopeful battles "all 70,000 pages" in campaign ad
by MIKAEL THALEN | INFOWARS.COM | JULY 21, 2015
Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul took a chainsaw to the U.S. tax code this week in a new campaign ad aimed at highlighting his flat tax plan.
The video, entitled “How Would You Kill the Tax Code?” shows the Kentucky senator throwing the 70,000 page law into a wood chipper before finally lighting it on fire and splitting it in half with a chainsaw.
“Hey, I’m Rand Paul and I’m trying to kill the tax code, all 70,000 pages of it,” Paul says.
According to Paul’s website, the tax code, which has become “corrupt, complicated, intrusive and antigrowth,” needs to be completely dismantled and replaced with a “Fair and Flat Tax.”
“I am announcing an over $2 trillion tax cut that would repeal the entire IRS tax code—more than 70,000 pages—and replace it with a low, broad-based tax of 14.5% on individuals and businesses,” Paul writes. “I would eliminate nearly every special-interest loophole. The plan also eliminates the payroll tax on workers and several federal taxes outright, including gift and estate taxes, telephone taxes, and all duties and tariffs.”
Despite at least 4,430 changes to tax laws between 2001 and 2010, Paul adds, everyday Americans continue to be plagued by income inequality. Paul says his “all-American solution” would keep those with an “arsenal of lobbyists” from gaming the system and paying lower taxes than the middle-class.
“Every year the Internal Revenue Code grows absurdly more incomprehensible, as if it were designed as a jobs program for accountants, IRS agents and tax attorneys,” writes Paul.
“Another increasingly obvious danger of our current tax code is the empowerment of a rogue agency, the IRS, to examine the most private financial and lifestyle information of every American citizen,” Paul writes. “We now know that the IRS, through political hacks like former IRS official Lois Lerner, routinely abused its auditing power to build an enemies list and harass anyone who might be adversarial to President Obama’s policies. A convoluted tax code enables these corrupt tactics.”
The proposed tax reform also aims to derail special-interest groups, crony capitalists and corporate welfare.
“Today, the American people see the rot in the system that is degrading our economy day after day and want it to end,” Paul wrote in closing. “That is exactly what the Fair and Flat Tax will do through a plan that’s the boldest restoration of fairness to American taxpayers in over a century.”

A new Senate bill would address the gun-free zones that many critics blame for worsening a string of shootings against domestic military targets, most recently the Chattanooga shooting which cost the lives of four Marines and one Navy sailor.
The bill — which Senator Jerry Moran, a Kansas Republican, plans to introduce this week — would allow active-duty military members to carry their private weapons at American military installations, lifting the previous gun ban.
Current Department of Defense policy prohibits carrying weapons on military installations unless specifically given permission as law enforcement or security. Activists say the shootings at the Navy Yard, Fort Hood, and Chattanooga would have been prevented if the military members were allowed to carry their personal weapons to work.
“What happened in Chattanooga can never happen again,” Moran said in a statement. “The U.S. Constitution guarantees the ‘right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,’ yet our men and women in uniform are being prevented from exercising this constitutional right when fulfilling their duties on American soil.”
LANSING, MI (WNEM/AP) - Michigan National Guard is in training mode for the month of July. Aircraft from more than a dozen military units will be operating in northern Michigan over the next several weeks as part of a major training exercise involving military personnel from Canada, Latvia, Poland, Australia and 20 states' military forces. Northern Strike is unique in that it combines both air and ground combat capabilities in one training exercise. "Northern Strike allows us to train the way we fight," said the exercise director, Michigan Air National Guard Lt. Col. Matthew Trumble. "When we deploy to a combat theater, ground and air assets work closely together to accomplish their objectives. This exercise simulates operations in a counter insurgency environment, similar to situations the U.S. military has been involved with over the past several years." More than 3,000 Soldiers, Airmen and Marines will participate in the fourth annual Northern Strike exercise, based primarily at the Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center and the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center. Live fire exercises involving small arms, mortars, artillery and aerial munitions will take place on Camp Grayling from July 20-31. While each Northern Strike exercise has its share of distinguished visitors, this year is unique in having the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, Gen. Frank Grass, scheduled to visit on July 27th. "Having the chief visit demonstrates the impact Michigan is having on the national stage", said Maj. Gen. Gregory Vadnais, director of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and adjutant general for the Michigan National Guard. "We look forward to showing off the capabilities of the Michigan Guard during his stay." Read more: http://www.wnem.com/story/29582108/mi...
(POLITICO) Republican presidential hopefuls in the Senate have joined the fast-growing movement encouraging students to opt out of the standardized tests that have become a part of everyday life in American schools.
The emphasis on testing has only been been ratcheted up in the era of Common Core, the education standards backed by Jeb Bush but vilified by most other Republicans. The new national political interest in testing could give even more momentum to the calls from thousands of parents and state lawmakers for students to skip the tests, despite threats from the federal government to cut off federal dollars if too few kids show up on exam day.
In a twist, the issue is putting conservatives on the same side of the issue as teachers unions and parents and even some Democrats, all of whom have called for cutting back on testing and the consequences that can result from the scores.
Obama administration Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter flew to Israel to talk about “compensations” to Israel for the supposedly “good nuclear deal” with Iran.
Even the Obama administration, at some level, knows the deal is a joke.
Netanyahu told reporters:
“If this deal is supposed to make Israel and our Arab neighbors safer, why should we be compensated with anything?… Furthermore, how can you compensate a country, my country, against a terrorist regime that is sworn to our destruction and is going to get a path to nuclear bombs and billions of dollars to boot for its terror activities against us.”
Carter arrived in Israel on Sunday night as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated an unwillingness to speak about any “compensation” the US could provide to make Israel feel more secure after last week’s signing of the Iranian nuclear deal.
Netanyahu, in an interview Sunday on ABC, said there was much talk about compensating Israel.
The question that needed to be asked, the premier said, was, “If this deal is supposed to make Israel and our Arab neighbors safer, why should we be compensated with anything?” Furthermore, he said, “how can you compensate a country, my country, against a terrorist regime that is sworn to our destruction and is going to get a path to nuclear bombs and billions of dollars to boot for its terror activities against us.”
Carter is scheduled to meet Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon on Monday, and hold a press conference with him. On Tuesday, he is scheduled to meet Netanyahu.
Carter is expected to visit IDF troops in the North, as well as travel to Jordan and Saudi Arabia, where there is also a great deal of unease over the nuclear deal.
