SECURITY ALERT: What I witnessed today at an Army Reserve Center was deplorable.

I had a fantastic Friday evening down in Gladewater Texas with the East Texans for Liberty (ET4L) at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. This morning I drove back up to Dallas for my special rendezvous at noon. I met U.S. Army 1SG David Beck of the Texas National Guard at the recent Boots n’ Shoots Veterans Charity event at the Dallas Shooting Club. At that event 1SG Beck gave me an invite to his unit’s next drill weekend — that was today. It was an enjoyable two hours with the men and women of the Texas 49th Division (National Guard) at the Army Reserve Center in Grand Prairie, just south of Dallas.
I was met by Captain Smith and 1SG Beck who are the command team for Delta Company (MI), 156th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB), 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). The 56th IBCT is commanded by COL David Webb (no, not the Fox News contributor and Sirius/XM radio host). The 156th BEB command team is LTC Robert Crockem and CSM Robert Nieto. I was able to me this entire command team and speak to them about personnel and training issues — and they are doing excellently in their manning numbers. The 156th BEB will soon be conducting a deployment exercise to Ft. Hood and to the National Training Center.
It was chow time so I got to walk around and speak to the Soldiers. I chatted with one section from Delta Company and asked how many had been deployed — one raised his hand. Then I asked the group of Soldiers who was looking forward to being deployed — they all raised their hands. This is what makes our men and women the best our nation has to offer — their commitment to serve and sacrifice. This is why when I hear pundits pontificate about “America is war weary” I want to tell them to shut up. Americans are weary of the mall and reality TV. Our warriors, like this Military Intelligence Soldiers want one thing, which they confided in me — to use their talents and training to find the enemy and smoke ‘em.
It was nice spending those two hours with Soldiers, brought back fond memories as I drove away — and therein lies my real concern for these warriors who were fulfilling their commitment to our nation this weekend.
Just this week, ISIS conducted several suicide bomber attacks, one in Jalalabad Afghanistan — but more disconcerting was the attack at the U.S. Consulate in Irbil, Kurdistan. This past week in Ohio a man was arrested and charged as he had been in Syria training with ISIS and returned to the U.S. committed to killing our men and women in uniform. ISIS has released a list of our men and women for targeting — we wrote about that earlier this week, and the USNORTHCOM response to that threat.
And so it was when I drove onto the Army Reserve Center at Grand Prairie for a visit yesterday, I was met by a lone unarmed female contract security person who did not even take my ID and match it to my face. She came out of the shack and waved me right onto this military installation.
Yes, the Army Reserve Center at Grand Prairie is a military installation. Not only is the Army based there but also a U.S. Marine Reserve artillery unit — and the majority of their equipment is located on this installation. But, as I saw during my visit , their unit arms room and intelligence sensitive items are there as well.
So let me ask the simple question: why was the force protection status for this installation, especially during a drill weekend not higher? Why weren’t there armed U.S. military guards at the entry point to this installation? I was briefed that the Grand Prairie Police Department has jurisdiction over this installation — so where was the armed patrol unit to monitor the entry point to this installation on drill weekend?
Do you all know how serious this was? This is a pure example of a “soft target” and a “gun free zone” where our men and women in uniform were stationed. Would we allow this to happen at the Pentagon? Shall we be reminded of what happened at Ft. Hood and the Navy Yard in Washington DC?
Now, what I don’t want to happen is that some higher-up — who should be as concerned as I am — takes retribution against the leadership who was there today — who knew of my coming– and I briefed them that I was concerned about the security of the Reserve Center — they nodded in agreement.
And the Texas Army National Guard Commanding General knew of my visit — the real question is what are we going to do to correct this failure in force protection and security for our soldiers? I am a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and a former Member of Congress who served on the House Armed Services Committee. If I saw this, and did not raise the issue it would be deplorable.
And remember, Texas is the state home to the Chairmen of the House Homeland Security and Armed Services Committees. This should be a matter of deep concern for them — for all of us.
Someone needs to conduct a full-scale review of our Military Reserve Component Centers, especially during drill weekends. There is NO excuse as to why this installation was unsecured — especially with the amount of sensitive items, weapons, and equipment. However, that can be replaced. The most important resource is those Soldiers who were there going through their medical readiness update — unprotected. Unconscionable!
I know Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Dempsey, stated that the Iraqi town of Ramadi was not symbolic, and his words seemed dismissive and to render Ramadi as insignificant — not true for those Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines who shed blood there.
I pray it is not the case that he and others see the Army Reserve Center in Grand Prairie as “not symbolic” because I can bet that the enemy does not. What I witnessed today was highly disturbing and should anger you as well. I truly do not expect the liberal progressive socialists to care. What do I want? A full review of reserve center security procedures and processes, especially during drill weekends. This was unacceptable. There MUST be armed security controlling entry access on any military installation — no soft targets!
Lastly, I recall at the last 2012 Presidential debate on foreign policy and national security at Lynn University in Boca Raton Florida between President Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. During that debate there was a very condescending exchange where Barack Obama chided Romney about seemingly being outdated and that the military now has aircraft carriers and not horses and bayonets. Well Mr. President, while I toured the Delta Company (MI), 156th BEB arms room guess what was there on the shelf to be issued to the Soldiers? Yes, bayonets. There are many things I could say but I will say this, so much for you being an engaged and knowledgeable Commander-in-Chief — perhaps, fewer photo ops?

He has done an excellent job of organizing security for the miners and their property, as you will see by reading below. This is not a "standoff" with the BLM or any other agency or department. IMPORTANT UPDATE
[Editor's Note: By phone conference Wednesday, April 15, 2015, various Board members and Stewart Rhodes took reports from Joseph Rice who is the coordinator for Josephine County Oath Keepers in Oregon. Joseph Rice has done an outstanding job in furnishing and organizing security to the mines involved in this most-recent gambit by the BLM. Joseph Rice has a good working relationship with the Sheriff of Josephine County, and he lamented to the Board that the Sheriff is now reporting "death threats" (plural) are being made against the life of the Deputy mentioned in this article.
Oath Keepers Founder and President, Stewart Rhodes, has asked me to make clear to all Oath Keepers everywhere that Oath Keepers will not tolerate any member who makes death threats. Period. According to Josephine County Sheriff, these threats are being investigated now.
I understand the logic in many reactions to this Deputy having made his now infamous statement, (that he "has a problem with the Constitution") and it is obvious to me that the SPLC's training programs for "law-enforcement officers" has its fingerprints all over the poor Deputy's brain. What he has said is a clear example of the sort of training our cops and Deputies are receiving now that America is being converted into a police state. They are being taught that the Constitution and the people who uphold it are "problems" for law enforcement. While that is in itself a travesty and constitutes what amounts to treason, it is not the mission of Oath Keepers to call for the death of any officer who succumbs to the current training programs and devolves his humanity to the point he allows himself to be a tool of governmental tyranny. Brainwashed cops/Deputies/soldiers are not the problem - they are the symptom of the problem. Our problem is the mechanism which is doing the brainwashing.
Oath Keepers sets a high bar for standards of deportment in order to qualify for membership in our organization. All Oath Keepers are expected to remain calm and cool in their mind sets.

This is very rugged, mountainous terrain with 70% slope angles, dense forest cover, temperatures from 31 - 70 degrees, rain & snow. If you are planning to come, please ensure your physical fitness level is appropriate. Assignments many be on the mine site, perimeter roads or Staging Site as needed.
Medical
EMT, Paramedic or Combat Medic / Corpsman. Current and recent qualifications. Assignment will be with tactical teams and staging site based on physical ability. We are requesting you bring your own equipment if you are able to.
Communications
HAM General & Technician. We have a 24/7 radio overwatch. Programming radios, briefing radio protocol. Assignment may be on the mine, staging or other remote location based on physical ability.
Logistics
We have substantial resources moving into the area. We will need assistance with processing personnel, assignments, receiving supplies, transportation, roster maintenance and document recording.

It is spring in Oregon with wide temperature swings, rain, snow & high winds. Please come self-contained for the duration of your stay. This is a camping situation, so prepare for that.

MSM Finally Admits It, Cannabis Can Cure Cancer, It’s High Time We Stop Arresting People for It

Atlanta, Ga. – In a surprising move, CNN is reporting that marijuana may be a potential cure for certain types of cancer after numerous studies have shown the viability of cannabis as a potential cancer treatment. The report of marijuana being a potential cure was less surprising than the fact that it was covered prominently by a mainstream media outlet.
The stunning admission comes as Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, has gone on record stating,
“It’s time for a medical marijuana revolution.”
The research, cited by CNN, was conducted in numerous preclinical studies on mice and rats, as well as human cells. It has shown “that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells,” according to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institute of Health.
Additionally, the National Cancer Institute reports that a study in mice “showed that cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of the colon and may have potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer, and possibly in its treatment.”
In another “laboratory study of delta-9-THC, human liver cancer cells showed that the substance damaged or killed the cancer cells. The same study of delta-9-THC in mouse models of liver cancer showed that it had antitumor effects,” according to the National Cancer Institute.
Positive signs were also shown in studies regarding breast cancer as “a laboratory study of cannabidiol (CBD) in estrogen receptor positive and estrogen receptor negative breast cancer cells showed that it caused cancer cell death while having little effect on normal breast cells. Studies in mouse models of metastatic breast cancer showed that cannabinoids may lessen the growth, number, and spread of tumors.”
The preliminary research is extremely promising and holds hope for numerous new treatments for numerous different types of cancer. The problem is that the U.S. federal government treats possession of marijuana as a criminal act.
Even the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a US federal government research institute whose mission includes “bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction,” has officially admitted that marijuana extracts can kill cancer cells.
Currently, however, the U.S. government classifies cannabis as a Schedule I drug, meaning that the government considers it to have no acceptable medical usage or value. Other drugs classified as Schedule I are LSD, heroin, ecstasy (MDMA), and peyote.
To do research on marijuana, scientists need approval from numerous federal departments and approval is extremely rare. Subsequently, this designation has prevented researchers from conducting clinical trials of cannabis as a treatment for cancer in humans.
Imagine the possibilities if possessing this plant wouldn’t get you kidnapped and locked in a cage, or killed.
The system is laid out in such a way that it creates a dynamic where physicians refuse to even consider cannabis, despite seeing evidence that it works. Without it being legitimized through clinical research and practice standards, doctors fear professional repercussions and potentially losing their license to practice medicine.
According to Dr. Gupta,
“There is now promising research into the use of marijuana that could impact tens of thousands children and adults, including treatment for cancer, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s, to name a few. With regard to pain alone, marijuana could greatly reduce the demand for narcotics and simultaneously decrease the number of accidental painkiller overdoses, which are the greatest cause of preventable death in this country.”
Currently, a bipartisan bill, authored by Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York — titled the Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States Act of 2015, is in the Senate. This act would ease many of the current restrictions, simplifying the study of cannabis for research.
Dr. Gupta hits the nail on the head when he poignantly stated:
“We should legalize medical marijuana. We should do it nationally. And, we should do it now.”
The potential benefits from research into the medical uses for cannabis know no bounds. We could quite possibly be at the precipice of one of the greatest medical breakthroughs of our collective lives. If only the federal government would get out of the way and allow science to study this potential cure for cancer.
