Are we sufficiently post-woke to allow ourselves to acknowledge that Greek and Kenyan culture, customs, and clans are not interchangeable?
"White dominant culture, or whiteness, refers to the ways white people and their traditions, attitudes, and ways of life have been normalized over time and are now considered standard practices in the United States," reads an infographic published by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in 2020.
Such aspects of whiteness, it says—based on an early DEI pioneer's work and intending to share "guidelines for talking about race"—include but are not limited to: "Rugged individualism""The nuclear family," specifically a "homemaker" wife and children who "should have own rooms""Objective, rational linear thinking""Respect authority""Follow rigid time schedules""Plan for future," "delayed gratification," and an "action orientation"Communication in a "written tradition" and justice "based on English common law" that is intended to "protect property & entitlements" because "intent counts."
Oh, and what's this? That said, the Smithsonian Institution removed the graphic from its website on July 17th of that year, saying: "We erred in including the chart. We have removed it, and we apologize. We are reviewing our policies to ensure that our digital materials reflect the quality you have come to expect. Education is core to our mission. We thank you for helping us to be better."
What's missing? How about any reason why it was removed. That statement reads like a wife-apology, spoken to slighted husbands everywhere with a dismissive such as, "I'm sorry you felt that way." One reply to the official statement reads, "Now do a 'blackness' chart." I have a feeling the Smithsonian would remove that, too.
Why was that infographic published in the first place? I do not believe it was intended to cause an offense to anyone of any race; rather I believe it was published because those who created it believe it's correct.
And, of course, it is.
I wrote this editorial in the context of the release of Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" adaptation, about which Jack Posobiec wrote the following: "Helen of Troy was white. Achilles was white. Odysseus was white. This is all white culture."
The racially- and gender-diverse casting of The Odyssey has been hailed as "one of the summer's top-grossing films" despite a July 2026 release (I wrote this piece in May.) In Forbes:
"Some critics of Nolan's casting choices for 'The Odyssey' have lamented the cast lacks Greek actors and is allegedly historically inaccurate ... [S]ome critics have also criticized his casting of rapper Travis Scott in a small part. Nolan defended his choice ... saying, "I cast him because I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap ... When you're looking at the ancient past ... 'What is the best speculation and how can I use that to create a world?'"
Analogous? Is it though?
The Odyssey is the foundational work of Western epic poetry traditionally attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer. There was no meaningful direct contact between Greece and sub-Saharan Africa by that point in history. In fact, the Greeks thought of even Ethiopia as "a mythical land at the farthest edges of the earth." But of course, rap music, if one can call its quasi-rhythmic lyricisms that, descends directly from traditional African storytellers called griots.
"Rap is fundamentally based on vocal styling, based on call-and-response, which is the foundation of all Black music," CNN reported a Nigerian record executive saying in 2023.
I suppose rap, then, is analogous to Greek oral poetry like the Mediterranean sweet pastry baklava is analogous to thiakry, a west African dessert made with couscous and milk—which is to say, not at all, besides the fact that two different peoples in two different places participated in two different activities. So ... analogous. Simply consider these two passages to conclude this comparative literature lesson.
From The Odyssey, the A.S. Kline 2004 translation:
"Great goddess, do not be angry at what I say.
"I know myself that wise Penelope is less than you,
"it's true, in looks and stature, being a mortal,
"while you are immortal and ever young.
"Even so I yearn day after day, longing to reach home,
"and see the hour of my return."
From the Odyssey-analogous rapper Travis Scott:
"In the 305, bitches treat me like I'm Uncle Luke
"(Don't stop, pop that pussy)
"Had to slop the top off, it's just a roof (uh)
"She said, 'Where we goin'?' I said, 'The moon'
"We ain't even make it to the room"
The former is white culture; the latter, black culture. Obviously.
Because what is a culture but what its people make it to be for themselves, their kin, and their progeny? Culture, I learned through my communication degrees and studies therein, is an organically emergent phenomenon that is self-reinforced and ever-self-re-inventing through the participation of its members, its people.
It’s no surprise that Japanese culture differs from Louisiana Cajun culture, which differs from South African culture, which differs from Persian culture—because those peoples are different, and naturally their cultures are too.
Which brings us to the white culture—the whiteness—of "The Odyssey."
That Smithsonian infographic contains text written by Judith H. Katz, a forty-year paradigm-shifter on "cutting-edge approaches to white awareness, inclusion, the leveraging of differences, covert processes, and strategic change." Katz has "consulted to colleges and universities including Stanford School of Business, Harvard Library, and the University of Connecticut Law School." She also authored "the first systematic training program to address racism from a white perspective."
Before DEI, there was Judy Katz; because of Judy Katz, there is DEI. Other so-called anti-racist trainers, speakers, consultants, educators, and such have also published work that both frames and details white culture, whiteness, even "white supremacy" as all the things in that Smithsonian Institution info-piece—which, by the way, contained statements written by Katz copyrighted to the year 1990! It's difficult to tell the anti-white apart from the pro-white, I have gathered, because it's all the same sets of claims.
The point is, the denizens of DEI training are not wrong, and neither is Posobiec. They completely agree for what I presume are completely opposite reasons. Here are just ten random examples where Judy Katz's acknowledgements of white cultural traits map onto Homer's (not Nolan's) Odyssey and various events, points, and twists within the oral work's arc:
- Rugged individualism: Odysseus alone tricks Cyclops ("Nobody"), rams stake solo. Self-reliant winner.
- Nuclear family: Twenty-year quest reclaims Penelope (homemaker wife) plus independent Telemachus. Dad is head of house.
- Objective, rational, linear thinking: Counts sheep, times blinding perfectly, plugs ears with wax in sequence. Cause-effect engineer.
- Respect authority: Defers to Athena/Zeus/Hermes hierarchy, follows higher order.
- Rigid time schedules: Tracks seasons, winds, exact days on raft, times return for bow contest.
- Plan for future / delayed gratification / action: Rejects Calypso's immortality/sex for future in Ithaca. Chooses suffering and constant action.
- Hard work before play: Nonstop toil building raft, rowing storms, enduring trials. Work means survival.
- Justice / protect property / intent counts: Massacres 108 suitors stealing livestock, wife, throne. Restores entitlements.
- Primacy Western / Greek / Judeo-Christian: Whole epic is literally Greek tradition—heroism, order, rationality as core.
- Written tradition: Odysseus's long structured linear tale becomes foundation of Western canon.
And what of the people of that "tradition"? Well, as you might expect, Helen of Troy, either a real individual or based on a true story, was decidedly not Kenyan like Nolan's Helen, Lupita Nyong'o. On the makeup of the ancient Greeks, from Nature:
"The Minoans and Mycenaeans . . . were homogeneous, supporting the genetic coherency of these two groups. Differences between them are only relative, viewed against their broad overall similarity to each other and to the southwestern Anatolians, sharing in both the 'local' Anatolian Neolithic-like farmer ancestry and the 'eastern' Caucasus-related admixture . . . [Another hypothesis with data to support is] the idea that Proto-Greek speakers formed the southern wing of a steppe intrusion of Indo-European speakers."
Caucasus. As in, Caucasian. Indo-European. As in, Aryan. (The Anatolians were Indo-European, too.)
That said, there is nothing wrong with being Kenyan. I've met plenty. I've also met Greeks. And again, aplenty. Nothing "wrong" with either. Neither shall I make any comparison or judgment of relative betterness of either, neither to each other, nor to any other. I'm sure that couscous action with the dairy and whatnot is tasty, and surely, too, is that honey pastry up north way above Africa. With this piece, I am simply doing a little noticing and asking the question:
Are we sufficiently post-woke to allow ourselves to acknowledge that Greek and Kenyan culture, customs, and clans are not interchangeable?
And that neither are any two distinct peoples of other distinct places in distinct times?

Today is the first day of the rest of your life and a possibility of a New World never imagined! God is in control and things are about to become crystal clear if you're paying attention. This is why I’m writing to all who come across this letter today.
This afternoon I was shocked when I came across this video that ended up on the TruthSocial feed of none other than President Donald J. Trump. (See below) It is this day I realized now is the time to alert everybody to become engaged and SEE what is truly going on - right under our noses, no matter how much mainstream media lies about it! Turn them off!
This video, posted today, was done by a group called Promethean Action, who have been doing there work since 1971. I've only been wise to them for a few months and so glad they finally crossed my path because I knew, by the grace of God, I had just been delivered full clarity. It was then I also remembered, once again, God is truly in control of the situation on earth right now. These folks of Promethean Action have been doing their work much like I've been doing for decades only they've been doing it MUCH, MUCH longer, better and smarter. We’ve followed the same avenues, but they had the wisdom to tie it together and the vision to put the final bow on a story to be told from now till the end of time!

Trump is moving swiftly, far, far ahead of all of us and the people surrounding him are doing their best to keep up because THIS agenda is ordained by God himself! Even our arch enemies and overlords, (the globalists, elitists and purveyors of AI gods) can’t deny what Trump has been able to accomplish as of late and why they are so desperate to see him dead. They are on their back heels and reeling because Trump is making strides they have not been able to stop. Count them "Three Assassination" attempts that we know of! God is in Control.
Our Overlord's time is over and it’s up to humanity to choose one way or another if we are finished with their lies and greed, if we are willing to take a leap of faith and attain sovereignty for all humans across the planet. A chance to be truly free. That is exactly what Trump is doing and why they can't stop him! WE MUST BE FRONT AND CENTER HELPING HIM IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE! This is going to take ALL of us!

On July 4th, 2025, as I was getting ready to celebrate America's birthday with friends, my phone rang. The Guadalupe River was rising in Kerrville, faster than anyone could keep up with. I grew up around those waters. I went to summer camp right next door. I know how quickly conditions can turn.
What unfolded that day has been described as a natural disaster. But the more we learn, the harder it becomes to accept that explanation.
Flash flooding in the Texas Hill Country isn’t rare or surprising—it’s a known risk. Any camp operating along the Guadalupe River is responsible for planning for it. That responsibility becomes even more serious when the people in your care are children, some as young as eight, cut off from outside communication and entirely dependent on the adults around them.
According to reports, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch as early as 1:18 p.m. on July 3rd, followed by public alerts that afternoon. The official flash flood warning came at 1:14 a.m. on July 4th, covering Hunt and Ingram, where Camp Mystic is located. Cell phone alerts were sent. Campers and many counselors, however, were not allowed to use their phones due to camp policy.
What followed was not immediate action, but delay.
According to reporting and testimony, at approximately 1:45 a.m., camp leadership radioed instructions to move canoes away from the waterfront. At that same time, campers were still in their cabins.
The sequence matters. In a moment when minutes made the difference, the first coordinated response was to save the canoes and not move the children out of harm’s way.
Accounts from camp leadership on the timing of evacuation have varied, but most place the start around 2:00 a.m. The initial warning was reportedly treated as a “standard run-of-the-mill” alert. That distinction doesn’t hold when you are responsible for children sleeping in cabins along a river. A flood warning in that setting is not routine; it is a call to act.
By the time the movement began, water was already entering cabins.
One counselor reported being awakened by floodwaters rushing into the “Bug House” cabin and walking to notify camp leadership before evacuations began. Campers were not moved preemptively to higher ground, despite a nearby safer elevation, including the Cypress Lake property, less than a mile away.
The failures didn’t begin that night. They were built into the camp itself. Multiple cabins sat within the Guadalupe River’s floodway—areas widely recognized as extremely hazardous and often restricted from development. Federal data has identified numerous Camp Mystic structures within designated flood zones, including some in areas considered “extremely hazardous.”
In the years leading up to this tragedy, Camp Mystic pursued a multi-million dollar expansion. Yet instead of relocating vulnerable cabins away from the river, new construction continued in flood-prone areas while existing high-risk cabins remained in use.
This wasn’t an unknown risk. The region has a long history of catastrophic flooding—in 1951, 1978, 1985, 1987, and 1998—events that led to deaths, evacuations, and the creation of regional warning systems. The danger was well documented long before this summer.
Basic preparedness appears to have fallen short.
Counselors have stated there was no formal evacuation training, no clearly assigned emergency roles, and limited communication tools, with inconsistent access to walkie-talkies. Two counselors who lost their lives had previously expressed concern to their parents about supervision ratios and the placement of younger campers. These were not unforeseeable issues raised in hindsight; they were known concerns.
Despite all of this, Camp Mystic operated as a premium, for-profit institution, charging families significant sums in exchange for safety and care. Parents signed liability waivers, trusting that reasonable precautions had been taken. That trust was not met with the level of preparation it required.
It is tempting to call this tragedy unavoidable. To place it in the category of “acts of God,” where accountability feels less necessary and grief is easier to process. But the facts point elsewhere. Warnings were issued. Time existed. Higher ground was available. The risk was known. Critical decisions were delayed.
Across Texas, green ribbons now hang in quiet remembrance of the lives lost. They are a symbol of grief, but they should also be a reminder of responsibility. Camp Mystic has announced it will not reopen this summer. That decision is being framed as respectful, even prudent.
It is not enough.
Reopening next year would not be resilience; it would suggest denial. Some institutions, after tragedy, can rebuild because their failures were unforeseeable. But when risk is known, when warnings are given, and when preventable vulnerabilities are left unaddressed, the standard has to change.
Camp Mystic did not simply face a natural disaster. It failed to meet the responsibility that comes with operating in a known danger zone and caring for children who could not protect themselves. That is not a temporary lapse. It is a disqualifying one.
Camp Mystic should not reopen. Not next summer. Not ever.

On July 4th, 2025, as I was getting ready to celebrate America's birthday with friends, my phone rang. The Guadalupe River was rising in Kerrville, faster than anyone could keep up with. I grew up around those waters. I went to summer camp right next door. I know how quickly conditions can turn.What unfolded that day has been described as a natural disaster. But the more we learn, the harder it becomes to accept that explanation.
Flash flooding in the Texas Hill Country isn’t rare or surprising—it’s a known risk. Any camp operating along the Guadalupe River is responsible for planning for it. That responsibility becomes even more serious when the people in your care are children, some as young as eight, cut off from outside communication and entirely dependent on the adults around them.
According to reports, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch as early as 1:18 p.m. on July 3rd, followed by public alerts that afternoon. The official flash flood warning came at 1:14 a.m. on July 4th, covering Hunt and Ingram, where Camp Mystic is located. Cell phone alerts were sent. Campers and many counselors, however, were not allowed to use their phones due to camp policy.
What followed was not immediate action, but delay.
According to reporting and testimony, at approximately 1:45 a.m., camp leadership radioed instructions to move canoes away from the waterfront. At that same time, campers were still in their cabins.
The sequence matters. In a moment when minutes made the difference, the first coordinated response was to save the canoes and not move the children out of harm’s way.
Accounts from camp leadership on the timing of evacuation have varied, but most place the start around 2:00 a.m. The initial warning was reportedly treated as a “standard run-of-the-mill” alert. That distinction doesn’t hold when you are responsible for children sleeping in cabins along a river. A flood warning in that setting is not routine; it is a call to act.
By the time the movement began, water was already entering cabins.
One counselor reported being awakened by floodwaters rushing into the “Bug House” cabin and walking to notify camp leadership before evacuations began. Campers were not moved preemptively to higher ground, despite a nearby safer elevation, including the Cypress Lake property, less than a mile away.
The failures didn’t begin that night. They were built into the camp itself. Multiple cabins sat within the Guadalupe River’s floodway—areas widely recognized as extremely hazardous and often restricted from development. Federal data has identified numerous Camp Mystic structures within designated flood zones, including some in areas considered “extremely hazardous.”
In the years leading up to this tragedy, Camp Mystic pursued a multi-million dollar expansion. Yet instead of relocating vulnerable cabins away from the river, new construction continued in flood-prone areas while existing high-risk cabins remained in use.
This wasn’t an unknown risk. The region has a long history of catastrophic flooding—in 1951, 1978, 1985, 1987, and 1998—events that led to deaths, evacuations, and the creation of regional warning systems. The danger was well documented long before this summer.
Basic preparedness appears to have fallen short.
Counselors have stated there was no formal evacuation training, no clearly assigned emergency roles, and limited communication tools, with inconsistent access to walkie-talkies. Two counselors who lost their lives had previously expressed concern to their parents about supervision ratios and the placement of younger campers. These were not unforeseeable issues raised in hindsight; they were known concerns.
Despite all of this, Camp Mystic operated as a premium, for-profit institution, charging families significant sums in exchange for safety and care. Parents signed liability waivers, trusting that reasonable precautions had been taken. That trust was not met with the level of preparation it required.
It is tempting to call this tragedy unavoidable. To place it in the category of “acts of God,” where accountability feels less necessary and grief is easier to process. But the facts point elsewhere. Warnings were issued. Time existed. Higher ground was available. The risk was known. Critical decisions were delayed.
Across Texas, green ribbons now hang in quiet remembrance of the lives lost. They are a symbol of grief, but they should also be a reminder of responsibility. Camp Mystic has announced it will not reopen this summer. That decision is being framed as respectful, even prudent.
It is not enough.
Reopening next year would not be resilience; it would suggest denial. Some institutions, after tragedy, can rebuild because their failures were unforeseeable. But when risk is known, when warnings are given, and when preventable vulnerabilities are left unaddressed, the standard has to change.
Camp Mystic did not simply face a natural disaster. It failed to meet the responsibility that comes with operating in a known danger zone and caring for children who could not protect themselves. That is not a temporary lapse. It is a disqualifying one.
Camp Mystic should not reopen. Not next summer. Not ever.
